"STITCHING MENDS MY SOUL"

INSPIRATIONS

THIS PAGE IS DEVOTED TO THINGS THAT INSPIRE ME

My great-grandmother made this 1930's quilt.  It's very special to me.

This beautiful butterfly quilt was made by my Great-Grandmother.  The fabrics are 1930's and possibly some 1940's.  What a treasure!  I remember sleeping under this and other old quilts while growing up.

My mother didn't quilt or sew or craft, but my grandmothers did.  However, neither were quilters.  Guess it skipped a couple generations.  When I was little I just had to create with fabric.  I started with old socks to make doll clothes.  I think it was just something I inherited from previous generations.

My Grandma Dorothy taught me to embroider and crochet.  My Aunt Mary taught me to knit.  Mrs. Ott, my home-ec teacher, taught me to sew.  I pretty much taught myself to quilt.

Nature inspires me.  I think of it as "artwork by God'.  No one can outdo that!  This is a beautiful sunrise over Whitefish Bay, summer 2011.
